“Spiderman” Thief Used North End Rooftops and Tunnel Ramp to Evade Police

At tonight’s public safety meeting, Boston Police described the scene this morning in the North End as officers pursued a “spiderman” thief who jumped over several rooftops to evade authorities. However, the suspect apparently dropped an ID so detectives are following up.

Police said the man was selling stolen property in the North End when officers starting chasing him on Hanover St. The man climbed up a fire escape, ran across several rooftops and continued jumping from building to building toward the Sumner Tunnel. Police followed until the man took a “leap of faith” across the tunnel ramp, barely making it to the other side. At that point, police lost sight of the suspect who escaped.
