State Representative Michlewitz Files Boston Reprecincting Legislation

News from the Office of State Representative Aaron Michlewitz:

State Representative Aaron Michlewitz filed legislation this week that will ensure that Boston’s wards and precincts will be re-evaluated and redrawn where necessary by the year 2021. For the past few decades, Boston has been exempted from going though the reprecincting process due to its size. After decades of demographics and population shifts without any voting district changes, this issue will hopefully, finally be addressed.

“This bill will allow Boston to properly adjust to the tremendous population changes that have occurred throughout the city over the past few decades,” said Representative Michlewitz. “I am happy to be working with Mayor Menino, the City Council, and my colleagues in the Legislature to see this bill come to fruition.”

The City Council passed a resolution in September calling for reprecincting. The Mayor signed off in October, and now the bill moves to the State Legislature for final passage.  “We are hopeful to see action on this bill before formal sessions end next year,” added Representative Michlewitz.
