Video: 2011 North End Columbus Day Parade

The bi-annual North End Columbus Day Parade was held on Sunday, October 9th, featuring dignitaries, marching bands and community organizations. Through a massive street cleaning (and towing) effort, the neighborhood has never been so clean!

This year’s parade was held in honor of the late Michael Nazzaro, former State Representative of the North End. The parade started at Christopher Columbus Park after a morning of family friendly events that entertained over a hundred neighborhood children.

Grand Marshal Mayor Thomas M. Menino led a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of Christopher Columbus with local officials including State Senator Anthony Petruccelli, State Rep. Aaron Michlewitz and City Councilor Sal LaMattina. Several other City Councilors also marched in the parade as did Italian Consul General Guiseppe Pastorelli. Also, see the video for a look-a-like politician surprising the Mayor adding some fun.

The parade winded through the North End streets including Atlantic Ave., Commercial St., Hanover St., Cross and Endicott St.

Congratulations to the North End Columbus Day Parade Committee: Louis Strazzullo (Chair), Matt Bamonte, Jason Aluia and Blake Webber. The parade is in East Boston next year and will return to the North End in 2013.

  1. This is a great video! Watching the parade whille sipping a cup of coffee beats seeing it any other way. Also, one sees more of the parade than one can being there. Thankyou Matt.
