Jeanne Dasaro of “North End Stories” presented at both NEWNC and NEWRA meetings this month to introduce her oral history project. North End Stories is a digital narrative that aims to collect, preserve, and share the stories of Italian-Americans whose families immigrated to Boston’s North End in the late 19th and early 20th century. Answering the questions, how has the neighborhood changed since 1900? Since 1950? How have lifestyles changed? What has stayed the same? How is Italian-American culture alive today in the North End? Once the project is complete Ms. Dasaro intends to release a series of video interviews, a booklet of photos and quotes, and an interactive website. Several videos are already on the website at www.northendstories.com.
