Glenn Taylor at 162 Endicott St. and his architect presented a request for zoning relief at this week’s meeting of the North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC). The owner has applied to Boston’s zoning authority to legalize a first floor/basement unit that was created years ago under a different owner. After recent flooding, the unit needs a building permit to perform remediation work. The zoning board is requiring the height in the basement be at least 7.5’ feet. The owner plans to lower the floor as a result.
Owners and abutters on Thacher Ct. have yet to work out an agreeable plan for emergency egress. The property at 162 Endicott St. is the only emergency egress from the Thacher Ct. building. The issue concerns a gate that exists for security concerns but is also blocking egress.
NEWNC voted 5-1 to table the application. The owner agreed to address the issues raised and to come back to NEWNC at the July meeting. More details and discussion in the video of the NEWNC proceedings.
