Nine Candidates on Ballot for North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) Election Set For May 14, 2011

The ballot has been announced for the 2011 North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council election, scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2011, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet St. There are nine candidates running for six open seats on NEWNC, each with a 2-year term. All North End / Waterfront residents may vote for up to six candidates.

A Candidates’ Night will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011, 7:00 pm at the monthly NEWNC meeting at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet St. Each candidate will be given an opportunity to introduce themselves to the community. All NEWNC meetings are open to the public.

The 2011-2012 NEWNC will have up to 12 members including the 6 candidates above that receive the most votes and those with one year remaining in their term (Donna Freni, Ryan Kenny, Marie Simboli, Anne Devlin Tagliaferro and Giancarlo Tiberi). After the election, the council will determine whether to fill the vacant spot held by the late Mario Alfano or to leave it open until next year.

Who can vote?

Residents of the North End/Waterfront community who are 18 years or older as of the election. The area includes Precincts 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Ward 3 and the Waterfront Area’s Precinct 6 (Harbor Towers and Rowes Wharf). (View precinct map.)

A resident of North End/Waterfront community is  anyone who appears on the City of Boston’s most recent census list or anyone who does not appear on the most recent census list but can produce adequate proof of residency. At a minimum, individuals who do not appear on the most recent census must produce at least one form of identification with a photograph, address within the North End/Waterfront community, and date of birth (unless age is not a question).  Election officers at the polling location shall decide the sufficiency of the proof of residency.

The NEWNC election poll will be open for voting on Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet St.
