Nearly 200 North End / Waterfront neighbors came out on a February evening to support the Friends of the North End Branch Library at their annual gala fundraiser held at the Fairmont Battery Wharf.

President of the Friends group, Robin Ardito, thanked the attendees for supporting the North End Branch Library at 25 Parmenter St., highlighting the contributions that the library makes to the community. On display were examples of new chairs and lamps that the Friends group is contributing to the library, as well as a “wishing tree” of other items in need at the library. There was a cash bar, appetizers and a silent book auction, highlighting local authors. Entertainment was provided by guitarist Eric Little from Park Street School.

State Representative Aaron Michlewitz was presented with an “Honorary Friend” award for his public support of the branch library. City Councilor Sal LaMattina also attended the event as did Amy Ryan, President of Boston Public Library. Ms. Jennifer, librarian, and several staff members from the North End branch were also there. Robin thanked the Fairmont for donating the space and fellow organizers Paula Luccio, Jane Connolly, Lisa LeBlanc along with other members Peter Greene, Donna Wells, Phyllis Vitti, Lauren Wolf, Jim Salini and Pam Knight.

For those that missed the event and still want to contribute, checks can made out to the “Friends of the North End Branch Library” and mailed to 25 Parmenter St, Boston, MA 02113, or drop by the circulation desk at the library. The Friends group meets at the library on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Email the Friends group at folnebread@comcast.net.

  1. Looks like a lot of fun. Really appreciate what the friends do to help the library. It's so important especially for the kids and seniors.
