A report issued last week by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a coalition of more than 500 mayors that I co-chair with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, highlights the connection between weak gun laws and illegal gun trafficking among states. The report, Trace the Guns: the Link Between Gun Laws and Interstate Gun Trafficking, looks at data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and proves, beyond a doubt, that comprehensive gun trafficking laws are critical to preventing violent crime.

Open House, Open Studios at the North Bennet Street School to be held November 5 and 6.
Eight crafts disciplines on display.
Aspiring furniture makers, bookbinders, jewelry makers, carpenters – and those merely curious about the process of making exquisite things by hand – are invited to a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at one of the America’s oldest schools of craftsmanship during a special open house at the North Bennet Street School (www.nbss.edu) in Boston’s North End.
The event is on Friday, November 5, 10am to 2pm and Saturday, November 6, 10am to 3pm. Admission is free.
Visitors are invited to watch and interact with students and instructors at work in eight areas of concentration – from violin making and handmade cabinetry to piano restoration and locksmithing. A free shuttle bus on Friday will provide rides to the school’s Arlington, MA campus to view the carpentry and preservation carpentry training programs in action.
