Benjamin Hennessy Martin, 2, of the North End got a chance to explore the inside of a Boston fire engine during Friday’s Fill-the-Boot drive to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) at the Copley Square Farmers Market. Boston Fire’s Engine 3 of the South End raised $1,500 toward their $100,000 total goal and will continue to collect at farmers markets in Copley Square and at the South End Open Market throughout the month of August.
Boston Fire is a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), a longtime friend and the single-largest sponsor of the MDA, contributing more than $400 million since 1954. MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.
