Boston Parks Commissioner Antonia M. Pollak has announced that all Boston Parks and Recreation Department playing fields and ball diamonds are closed through next Monday, March 22. “Due to the heavy rains through the weekend, we are closing all our fields for the protection of both players and the turf itself,” Commissioner Pollak stated, noting that the fields are off-limits to casual athletes and permit holders alike until further notice.
“We are not only asking athletes but walkers, joggers, and dog owners to stay off the fields so they can recover.” Boston Parks and Recreation Department athletic field permits specify that play is not allowed on fields that are rain soaked or contain standing water. Commissioner Pollak added that the fields will be assessed on a case-by-case basis as to when they can reopen.
