After Statewide release of MCAS and “No Child Left Behind” scores today, a Boston Public Schools’ press release had good news for the North End’s Eliot School.
“The John Eliot K-8 School in the North End posted significant MCAS gains, with double-digit increases in the percentage of students passing and achieving proficiency in nearly every subject of every grade level.”
“As a result, the Eliot’s NCLB status now moves from “restructuring” (the most serious improvement category) to “good standing.” It is one of only three schools statewide to move out of restructuring this year, having achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years.”
Boston Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Carol R. Johnson made a surprise visit to the school this afternoon to extend her congratulations.
