This is the third in a series of articles on the issues discussed at the June 22, 2009 public meeting for the Greenway District Planning Study with a focus on transportation.
A major priority of the BTD is to start installing electric car plug-in stations with new garages having 2 for every 50 spaces. Extending the green concept, the power that supplies the stations should also be from a renewable source such as wind or solar. Electric or hybrid car owners would need to have some type of station at home and then ideally near their office.
The City is working with MIT’s Smart Cities lab on this concept and other shared transportation alternative such as electric bike stations. These ‘mobility hubs’ would have large kiosks and some could be located along the Greenway.
