The North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) voted 3-6 to oppose a zoning application at 204 Hanover Street, owned by Charles Berry. The site is being proposed as the new location of Siobhan Carew’s Pomodoro Restaurant in the space formerly occupied by High Gear Jewelry. Pomodoro, the Italian restaurant, is currently at 319 Hanover Street but is not renewing its lease.
Attorney William Ferullo represented the applicant at the meeting and presented plans. The restaurant will be on the ground floor with a total of 39 seats, including an 8 seat outside patio that is recessed within the owner’s property line. Inside, a dining counter will face Hanover Street similar to the existing Pomodoro at 319 Hanover Street. Ms. Carew intends to transfer her existing alcohol license to the new location.
Similar to last week’s Residents’ Association meeting, a representative of abutter Angela Romano (Romano Florist) strongly objected to the proposal. The primary concern is noise, especially from the outside patio, and potential lines for the restaurant. Other issues cited include disruption to her tenants from new mechanicals, venting and a relocated upper floor entrance on the side of the building.
The NEWNC vote joins that of NEWRA in opposition of the application. Both groups are advisory to city officials that will make the final determination on this application.
