In the following letter to the community, Sgt. Tom Lema announces that he will be leaving District A-1 as Community Service Supervisor to accept a promotion to Lieutenant within the Boston Police Department. Sergeant James Chin will be his replacement.

For almost eighteen years, I have been the community service supervisor for District A-1 and I have had the pleasure of serving and working with the constituents of Charlestown, Chinatown, Bay Village, North End, Beacon Hill, West End, Leather District, Financial District, Downtown Boston BID, Midtown Park Plaza Association, Downtown North Association, Wharf District Council, Friends of the Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston Common, Public Garden, Friends of the Public Garden, Charlestown Against Drugs, North End Against Drugs, Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition and our homeless community. I have truly enjoyed all of the partnerships with the communities on District A-1.
I have met so many fantastic people who help make our neighborhoods better every day. I will be moving on to become a lieutenant within the Boston Police Department. My role within the department will be changing with the new position. I will miss working with everyone on a day to day basis but I will still be within the police department. I would be more than happy to help out as I move forward. My e-mail address will stay the same.
My replacement is Sergeant James Chin. He is highly qualified and is a great choice to continue on as the community service supervisor. Please continue to reach out, maintain partnerships, create a positive quality of life for everyone, solve problems within the community and find preventative strategies to stop crime. We know that it only works when we do it together.
Thanks for everything.
Tom Lema

Sgt. Lema,
Thanks for your many years of service to not only the A-1 District as a whole, but to our North End neighborhood.
It has been a pleasure working with you.
Much Appreciative,
-David Marx-
NEWNC Public Safety Committee Chair
Even though I probably drove you up a wall during some of our Safety Meetings~~~I will miss you !!
You are an honorable man, and a conscientious Public Servant ! You may be the only man I have ever met in my 69 years of life that admitted to~~ this~~that one time you were incorrect with your opinion of a neighbor of mine ~~~and was MAN ENOUGH to come shake my hand when you realized that I was right ! ! !
It takes a Big Man to admit he was wrong !! ha ha ha
Sorry to see you go!!! May God be with you in all of your ventures !
Sgt. Lema – Thanks for helpiing keep tabs on our wonderful Bay Village neighborhood.
Hope you’re as successful in your new job as you are in your present one. It’s been
great working with you all these years.
Hi, Tom,
I have worked with you for more years than I’ll
admit to and you have been a true friend to all in Bay Village!
That is over and above all the Duty Calls.
You will be missed but I congratulated you and
wish you the best in your position LT. TOM LEMA!
