This year a portion of the proceeds will help trim the trees in the Prado so that thousands of visitors can have an unobstructed view of the magnificent architecture. The NEWRA Parks and Open Spaces Committee added, “We are excited and grateful to hear that some of the proceeds from the event will be used to trim the trees in the Prado. Pruning of the trees is desperately needed to help keep the trees in good health, protect the historical views of Old North Church and St. Stephen’s Church, protect the Paul Revere Statue and other elements of the park from harm, and provide light and air that is sorely needed to allow flowers to prosper and to help the pavement and walls dry out after rain.”

Matt,
Thank you for the shout out.
Here is a little more information about the trees: Old North Church and the Friends of the Prado have been raising funds for the past eight years to maintain the trees in the Prado. The forty-four Linden trees need periodic pruning for their own safety. The crowns of the trees are outgrowing the ability of the root structure to sustain them. Too much shade on the Prado deteriorates the brick walls and floor and obscures the famous view from the Paul Revere statue to the steeple of Old North. The estimated cost of trimming the trees is $22,000. The Friends of the Prado have applied for a matching grant from the Parks Department for $11,000 and will contribute proceeds from the gala toward the match.
