Child Pornography Charges Result in Arrest of Boston Transportation Department Community Affairs Director

A Boston Transportation Department community affairs liasion, James Mansfield, was arrested Friday on child pornography charges, according to Boston Police.

An internet investigation showed the 47-year-old man was participating in sexual chat and exchanging child porn photos of undressed boys. Boston Police also found evidence by searching his Charlestown home computer under a search warrant.

Mansfield was a BTD Community Affairs Director and presented at North End neighborhood meetings on transportation issues. Mayor Menino has placed Mansfield on unpaid leave and said he will be fired following an administrative hearing, according to the Boston Globe. Mansfield worked at BTD for nearly 30 years and his 2011 salary was $104,173, according to city records.

An arraignment is scheduled for Monday in Charlestown. Those charged are assumed innocent until proven guilty. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact detectives at (617) 343-4400.
