First Night 2010

It is time to make your First Night plans! In the North End/Waterfront area, the biggest event will be the midnight fireworks on Boston Harbor. Christopher Columbus Park is generally the largest gathering point for the fireworks, although almost anywhere on that side of the Harborwalk will have a good view (the barge is already out there sitting in the harbor). The Boston Harbor Association has also arranged for multiple activities:

In the North End, Paul Revere House, New England Aquarium, the Improv Asylum and the Fairmont Hotel also have specials highlighted in the brochure. Faneuil Hall is also a designated site for First Night. The Examiner highlights several nightlife spots having special New Year’s Eve events in and around Faneuil Hall.

WELCOME TO FIRST NIGHT 2010

First Night 2010 is our 34th celebration of the arts and community in Boston. Since 1976, this signature event has served our great city by attracting audiences from near and far to enjoy and take part in a spectacular festival that inspires creativity as it begins a new year filled with promise.

First Night is proud to present an amazing group of performers and visual artists who truly represent the richness of Boston’s cultural landscape. Our celebration features longtime audience favorites like the interactive FedEx Family Festival, colossal ice sculptures, the Mardi Gras style Metro Grand Procession, the Boston 4 Productions Family Fireworks and the Frank Ward and Cape Dairy Midnight Fireworks, along with new and exciting performances and exhibitions. City to host fun, free events for residents during Inauguration 2010 Weekend

Free public skating at Frog Pond in addition to family open houses, book giveaways, & live performances at libraries

Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced today that the City of Boston will sponsor a series of free public events in honor of the City’s 2010 Inaugural events.  In the weekend leading up to the Inauguration of Mayor Menino and City Councilors, residents will have the chance to take advantage of free public skating at both the Frog Pond and Fenway Park in addition to a number of events, including open houses, book giveaways, and live performances, at branches of the Boston Public Library.  Mayor Menino and City Councilors will be sworn into office during a ceremony on Monday, January 4 at Faneuil Hall.

To the delight of neighborhood children (and adults), Santa flew in from the North Pole by helicopter landing on the North End fields at Puopolo & Langone Parks.
