Boston Latin School To Race Four Boats In 55th Annual Head of the Charles

Boston Latin School Crew is honored to be racing four boats in the 55th Head of the Charles Regatta next weekend.  On Sunday, October 20th, the girls squad will be racing in the Women’s Youth Fours and the Women’s Youth Eights and the boys squad will be competing in the Men’s Youth Fours and Men’s Youth Eight.

Four members of the boys first varsity boat have North End connections: Jordan Klysner, North End resident, is rowing in his third Head of the Charles Regatta and former Eliot School students Brando Palmarini of Beacon Hill, Jacob Stein of the West End and Samuel Sullivan of East Boston are all competing for the first time. 

All of the rowers are looking forward to the opportunity to race against the top high school crew teams. Last year, BLS Crew had great success in several regattas, winning the Massachusetts Public School Rowing Association’s spring regatta and qualifying a boys lightweight four and a girl’s eight to compete in the Youth Nationals in Sarasota last June. This year, with two new head coaches, the team started off the season with silver in three events at the Textile River Regatta. 

Racing in The Head of the Charles is a unique opportunity for these athletes. It’s the largest two day regatta in the world, with over 11,000 athletes competing and tens of thousands of spectators expected and occurs on the same stretch of river BLS crew practices on every day.
