American Rhino, the mission-based apparel, footwear and accessories brand, dedicated to raising awareness and funds for ground conservation efforts to protect African wildlife, is hosting its first annual Safari in the City Live Auction & Charity Gala on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.
All proceeds raised this evening will directly support the American Rhino Foundation, and its ability to give to the most local and effective conservation groups in Kenya.
This event will take place on Saturday, May 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at American Rhino’s flagship location in Faneuil Hall Marketplace, 4 S. Market Street, Boston. The silent auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. when to doors open, and the live auction will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets for the event are $50 per person and can be purchased here.
From 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., guests donned in their best ‘safari chic’ attire will enjoy a lavish evening of flavorful fare, including an oyster bar from Culinary Director Nick Dixon of Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar, and small bites from premier North Shore Caterer Timothy S. Hopkins, while sipping on signature libations, bidding, and dancing to Boston’s uncut Funk, Soul and R&B band, Mo Bounce. Participating guests who open up their hearts and wallets throughout the evening aren’t expected to go home empty handed, as the list of items up for grabs include a 10-day safari for two in Kenya (valued at $40,000); a 7-day stay in an apartment in Paris (valued at $5,000); a 7-day stay for up to 8 in the Dominican Republic (valued at $10,000), a case of limited addition rare wine from Napa Valley (valued at $500); a solid 14K Gold Elephant Hair Bracelet from American Rhino (valued at $5,000) and more.
“Ten years ago, my family and I competed in our first Rhino Charge and since then have competed in 5 more, raising over $200,000,” said Chris Welles, American Rhino Founder and CEO. “This launched the start of American Rhino in 2016. This June myself and the American Rhino Team will be returning to Kenya once again to partake in the 2019 Rhino Charge. The socially conscious brand’s recent efforts to aid the local Kenyan communities is the perfect example of their mission-critical work and the commitment put forth by the American Rhino team. In a recent trip to Nairobi and Masai Mara, Welles and his crew met with each manufacturer and have now successfully moved 90% of production to Eastern Africa. From there, they traveled to The Mara, which is one of the largest game reserves in Kenya, reconnecting with the Mara Rhino Ranger Team and presenting them with a new conservation car grant, allowing the Rangers the opportunity to better protect the land. They ended their journey in Laikipia where they presented their second grant of the trip, providing Kikoy backpacks filled with school supplies to the students of Laburra School.
All proceeds from the evening will directly support the American Rhino Foundation and its mission to fund and assist the most local and effected areas in Eastern Africa, which in turn supports the American Rhino team ahead of their participation in the 31st Annual Rhino Charge, a charitable off-road competition in Kenya which further helps raise money for wildlife conservation, with a goal to raise between $7,500 and $15,000 minimum per team, a goal of which the American Rhino team anticipates far surpassing.
