Obituary: Richard G. Mintz, Esteemed Local Lawyer

RGMintzRichard G. Mintz, a North End resident at the Prince Building, prominent legal figure and son of the founding partner of the law firm Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo PC passed away at the age of 89. Mintz was a lawyer for over 60 years, mostly in real estate law.

Born on Sept. 26, 1921, to Herman and Esther Mintz, Mr. Mintz was raised in the North End and lived in and around Boston his entire life. He attended Phillips Academy in Andover, and in 1939 entered Harvard University. But when World War II broke out, he left school to join the US Navy as a pilot and was commissioned as a naval officer.

He was married to Evvajean Mintz and had four children. An avid traveler, Mr. Mintz and his wife visited more than 60 countries and all but three of the 50 states.

Mr. Mintz served as chapter chairman of the American Jewish Committee, with Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, and on the board of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, among other endeavors.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will not be a funeral.
