Here are some photos of the fireworks as seen from the North End and downtown rooftops. After the first few minutes, most of the fireworks were unfortunately engulfed by black smoke. Some folks would also say they were obscured by the selection of pop music this year. All in all, it was still a great show. Also, see photos from the festivities during the day.

Photos are beautiful. What caused the black smoke?
Matt, when you get behind the lens of a camera ,MAGIC happens.Great stuff[as always]
Matt….gorgeous photos. We watched the fireworks on the tele, and were flummoxed by all the smoke.
We North Enders should cherish our unique view of the fireworks while we still can, because once the new Government Center Towers are completed, those views will be gone forever…the unfortunate smoke conditions at the 4th celebration was due to the weather. There is always a lot of smoke with fireworks displays, but because there was absolutely no wind the evening of the 4th, it was unable to dissipate like it normally does and hung over the proceedings instead.
Oh, yes, the never-ending threatening tower proposals…..here, there, everywhere. Distancing myself from the impending growth spurt is my saving Grace because it is surely disappointing, from all aspects. As Dave M. points out, this is the time to cherish our view of the fireworks, and I say, for that matter, cherish the view of the water. Soon the waterfront and perhaps nearby areas will be known as the “Shadowlands.”
