ParkWise Expands from North End to all of Boston, Cambridge & Somerville

Boston’s street sweeping is back in full swing making it a good time to revisit the new features at ParkWise, a free mobile parking app developed by North End resident Alex Shvartz. Having been successful here in the neighborhood, Shvartz’s StreetInfoTech has now released the app for use throughout the Boston area, including Cambridge and Somerville.

ParkWise is a community-based street parking app that has the ability to alert residents of any street sweeping that is scheduled to take place in their neighborhoods. Another main feature of the app is that it helps users find an open parking spot on Boston’s busy streets.

“As Boston residents, we all know how difficult it is to remember exactly when street cleaners are scheduled to come into our neighborhood,” says Shvartz. “Even if you are thinking ahead, and want to check the City of Boston Street Sweeping Lookup, it is difficult to navigate and often times hard to find your exact street. Even worse, the cost to having your vehicle ticketed and towed can be in excess of $200 in fees.”

The app works by using a map with highlighted streets and the “pass it on” principle. A “leaving soon” button is in place for people to notify other residents that they are leaving their spot. Once a user leaves his or her spot, the application will put a “free spot” sign at the spot so users can see the open space that is available for parking.

Has it been a few days and you can’t remember the street where you parked? No problem, the app also memorizes where your car is parked.

Unlike other parking apps, ParkWise complies with city regulations and does not allow users to sell or hold their spots. All parking spots are first come, first served.

The ParkWise app is free to download from Apple App Store or Google Play.
