Update from the “No HC” Taskforce

The following news update comes from the “No HC” (No Hazardous Cargo) taskforce, an informal group of neighbors including representatives from NEWNC, NEWRA & the NE Chamber of Commerce.

Neighbors,
Another busy week with more important developments.  As always, we encourage you to express your concerns to local politicians and officials in Washington, DC, including our Senators and Congressman, President Obama, and Ray LaHood and Anne Ferro at the US Department of Transportation (US DOT).  To help you with your letter-writing, sample letters and addresses are archived on the www.hazmatters.eboard.com website.  This week’s highlights:

1.       Boston Globe column: In today’s Metro section, Brian McGrory tells of his ride down Commercial Street in a rented 18-wheeler truck.  Get a view from the cockpit. Click here to read the thoughtful column.
2.       North End Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) letter: The NEWNC board has taken a strong position supporting the City in its request for a 15-month extension in completing its mandated safety study.  This letter will be sent to Ms. Ferro at US DOT with copies to the White House and Capitol Hill. The letter can be viewed at www.NEWNCBoston.org.

3.       “No HC” pins are available on a first come first serve basis.  They can be picked up at Anzalone Realty on Hanover Street.  8 1/2” x 11” signs will be coming shortly for business windows and residential buildings.

4.       www.hazmatters.eboard.com: Our very own website.  New this week are the articles from the Globe, Herald and Post Gazette; as always, you’ll find sample letters and updated contact info for officials at the Department of Transportation and for the Massachusetts delegation in Washington.
