Columbus Day Parade in East Boston [Photo Gallery]

On Sunday, October 7th, the annual Columbus Day Parade was held in East Boston. The parade began at Suffolk Downs, marched down Bennington Street, and ended at Maverick Square near the waterfront. Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito joined in the parade.

Honorary Chief Marshal was Mayor Martin Walsh. Chief Marshal was East. Boston State Rep. Joe Ruggiero. Veteran of the Year was Francisco A. Urena, a former Marine who serves as the Massachusetts Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Since 1937, the parade has taken place on the Sunday before Columbus Day and alternates between the North End (odd years) and East Boston (even years). The North End will host the parade next year.
