The North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) has compiled a capital campaign to support a bid on the Sumner Tunnel Administration Building to expand their arts programming space. The 128 North Street building, currently owned by the MA Department of Transportation, would provide over 6,500 square feet of programming space consisting of sound-proof music studios, classroom space, rehearsal space, an outdoor amphitheatre, and a multi-use performance hall on the top floor.
The building is also being sought by the North Bennet Street School. Miguel Gomez-Ibanez, President of North Bennet Street School, and Dianne Royle, President of the North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC), presented at the June 2017 North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) meeting regarding their competing bids.
