Boston Harborfest 2017 kicked off with its iconic cake-cutting at Faneuil Hall on Friday, June 30th. The patriotic opening ceremony featured the 215 Army Band leading the crowd. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and U.S. Coast Guard District Commander RADM Steven Poulin spoke at ceremony before the cutting of the Harborfest cake, the largest in the city and courtesy of Montilio’s Baking Company. National Park Service Park Rangers and Freedom Trail® Players, dressed in 18th-century costume, were also on hand to offer historical information about Faneuil Hall and other sites along the Freedom Trail. Boston Harborfest is the nation’s long-running Independence Day festival and features family-friendly activities on the waterfront through July 4th.
