Friday Night Blues

The Nazzaro Center ski program officially began on Friday night, Jan 20, when 40 men, women and (mostly) children  enjoyed some pretty warm weather,  but surprisingly good conditions, on the center’s “inaugural”  ski trip of the season.  As is customary, the Nazzaro Center runs 4 day-night ski trips per year, 2 on a Friday or Saturday night to the Blue Hills ski area in Canton, Ma.  and two others in collaboration with Youth Enrichment Services, a non-profit organization specializing in low cost outdoor winter and summer activities for inner city youth.

Teens enjoy skiing in Canton, MA.

On this Friday night, for the maximum amount of $25 (less if equipment rental wasn’t needed) children and adults got a lift ticket, equipment and lesson (optional) on a pretty decent size mountain just 20 minutes outside Boston.  It was a perfect tune-up for the bigger trips to come and the weather, as mentioned, was perfect; temperatures in the upper 30’s which meant no ice on the nearly 100% covered terrain.  The next scheduled trip will be on February 24th, another Friday night, again to the Blue Hills and beyond that, a March 11th excursion to Waterville Valley in NH for a full Saturday day trip (by the time this article is published, the center would have had their 1st YES trip to Pico in Vermont).  Trips are open to all but be aware that the Waterville trip has a limit of 36 participants (there is no limit to the Blue Hills trip, provided you have your own transportation).  And the maximum cost for each trip is only $25 (the YES trip includes coach bus transportation)!  Anyone interested in the Feb 24th trip, please call the center at 617-635-5166 and ask for Carl.
