3 Things & Photo Wednesday: Quiet Harbor Sunset, On This Day, Helicopter Yacht,

Yesterday was beautiful, from sunrise, through sunset and late into the evening. The sunrise on the harbor was gorgeous…but I didn’t have time to capture it; instead I captured the sunset. The North End is filled with beauty. - Photo by Francine LaChance.

Three Things to Know Today

1. Plenty of happenings going on in the neighborhood today:

10:00am Free Gentle Yoga at Christopher Columbus Park
Boston Public Health Commission, the Boston Parks & Recreation Department and Blue Cross Blue Shield MA are partnering to provide the Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series – FREE fitness programming in Boston Parks this summer.  Free Gentle Yoga, Wednesdays, 10am at Christopher Columbus Park

6:00pm Film: The Great McGinty at North End Branch Library
The Great McGinty (1940) Dan McGinty has great success in his chosen field of crooked politics. But endangers it all in one crazy moment of honesty. Runtime 82 minutes.

6:30pm Friends of the NE Library Meeting
Located at 25 Parmenter Street, view more information on the Friends of the North End Library website.

6:30pm The Last Puritans Lecture at Old North Church
Margaret Bendroth will present, The Last Puritans: Mainline Protestants and the Power of the Past, for the Summer Speaker Series. The New England Puritans have had a powerful hold on the American imagination, as everything from the founders of democracy to witch-burning killjoys. The Congregational churches, whose tall white spires still dot the New England countryside, took enormous pride in their Puritan and Pilgrim roots, especially as, in the years after the Civil War, Thanksgiving became a premiere American holiday. But, as they quickly discovered, history can be an unwieldy burden. Please join us for a reception and book signing following the lecture. Free tickets can be reserved here.

2. On this day…

  • In 1789: James Madison introduces a proposed Bill of Rights in the U.S. House of Representatives.
  • In 1950: The Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis Browns 29-4. The 25 run margin is the biggest win in the history of Major League Baseball.

3. Social Media: Take a look at this yacht with a helicopter docked up at Long Wharf:

Keep up with what’s happening on the Events Calendar.
