MassDOT will be closing the Callahan Tunnel overnight from the hours of 11 PM to 5 AM Tuesday, August 25th, Wednesday, August 26th, and Thursday, August 27th.
The detour for the closure will be starting along I-93 Southbound where traffic will be directed to the Exit 23 Purchase Street. At the end of the ramp, traffic will be detoured to the left over the Moakley Bridge. Following that, traffic will turn right onto Boston Warf Road and follow straight across Congress Street to West Service Road returning to the on ramp to I-90 Eastbound.
Traffic from Haymarket will be allowed to enter I-93 Southbound only and will be detoured to use Exit 23 Purchase Street upon entering tunnels and follow the detours as noted above.
MassDOT encourages drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to minimize delays. Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while traveling along the detour routes.
