Hello Toni and Maria,
I have lived in an apartment for a very long time. My landlord has kept the rent low with the understanding it was old. Over the years I have fixed up the kitchen and bathroom at my own expense. My landlord has recently asked me for a significant rent increase which I can not afford. I was wondering if I can ask to be reimbursed for my repairs?
Thanks, Cathy

Dear Cathy, If getting reimbursed for your repairs was not part of your original agreement then sorry you can not. It seems to have been a mutually beneficial situation.

Hello Toni and Maria,
I own Commercial Property and my tenant just informed me that they are selling their business. I believe their lease is up in a month or two. The tenant wants to hire a business broker but I would like my agent to handle the real estate lease. What should I do?
Thank you, Lisa

Hello Lisa, This is not an issue, your agent can handle the real estate negotiations and the business broker can handle the sale of the business. It is considered two separate transactions. Find out who will be handling the sale a give them your agents contact information. Consider this an opportunity to negotiate favorable terms.

***Every now and then we get asked a question outside the box. For example, this morning one of Maria’s clients shouted to her on Hanover Street (which is common) “You found me a Condo, now can you find me a wife?”

This is not the first time we’ve had relationships questions. Perhaps we will have to start another column …. Lol….
