District 1 City Councilor, Sal LaMattina, is considering a run for the Register post at the Suffolk Probate and Family Court. People close to the situation have confirmed the election run is under serious consideration as first reported by the Dorchester Reporter.
LaMattina told the Reporter he is talking with constituents to “see if this is the right move.” He said he loves being a councilor, but he would be able to work with — and help — families in the register post.
LaMattina has represented the North End, East Boston & Charlestown on the City Council since 2006. The Register post pays $110,000 per year compared to $87,500 for City Councilors.
LaMattina ran unopposed last November to secure another two year term on the City Council and was inaugurated earlier this month. (View inauguration photos.)
LaMattina could run for the post while still serving as City Councilor. The election for Register is scheduled for this Fall to replace the retired Richard Ianella. Sandra Giovannucci is currently serving as temporary Register.
