2011 Christmas Trolley Tour and Tree Lighting Celebration at the North End’s Prado

A large group of kids and neighbors came out today on the Prado – Paul Revere Mall for the North End stop of the Macy’s Enchanted Christmas Trolley Tour and Tree Lighting presented by the City of Boston.

Mayor Tom Menino introduced Santa and the lighting of the tree to a crowd of kids who had gathered for the appearance. The trolley tour featured a host of singers, costumed characters and treats with guns of confetti.

St. John School’s children’s choir also entertained the crowd while attendees munched on food courtesy of Mike’s Pastry.

The Prado was also the site of NEMPAC’s craft market and bake sale that ran through the afternoon.

Santa Skate and Toy Drive Fills Steriti Skating Rink

The holiday event season continues throughout the North End! Steriti Rink was the sight for the annual Santa Skate & Toy Drive. Loads of toys were collected during the free skating event. A report issued last week by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a coalition of more than 500 mayors that I co-chair with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, highlights the connection between weak gun laws and illegal gun trafficking among states. The report, Trace the Guns: the Link Between Gun Laws and Interstate Gun Trafficking, looks at data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and proves, beyond a doubt, that comprehensive gun trafficking laws are critical to preventing violent crime.
