Freedom Trail Announces First Official Smartphone Application
The Freedom Trail Foundation is making the leap from the 17th to the 21st century with the first official Freedom Trail smartphone and tablet application. Available for iOS and Android devices, the new Freedom Trail® app features 16 official historic sites of Boston’s Freedom Trail. The first of its kind, the Freedom Trail app highlights the rich history of the American Revolution as it unfolded in Boston, as well as a wide assortment of historic sites just steps off the Trail. Bringing the stories of the brave men and women who dared to challenge the mightiest nation in the world, the new app makes any visit to and walk along the Freedom Trail fun and educational. The Freedom Trail Foundation has partnered with Toura, a leading mobile app technology platform to create the new app.
Signature events of the Revolution are featured in the new Freedom Trail app, including Paul Revere’s midnight ride, the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Boston Tea Party, and the Boston Massacre. The new Freedom Trail app guides you on the Trail and brings it to life. It is the only official app, historically accurate, with text approved by Boston-based historians. It is presented by the Freedom Trail Foundation.
Freedom Trail Foundation selected Toura because of its unique technology offering, their experience in working with the travel and tourism industry, and its common mission to help educate and entertain an increasingly technology-driven audience visiting major sites, like the Freedom Trail. Toura made it easy to build the app using their state-of-the-art Mobile App Producer, a web-based content management system that provides access to Freedom Trail to organize and construct an app that can be easily published and updated across multiple app stores.
The Freedom Trail app marks the first of its kind in the Boston area to present a smartphone app of a historic trail. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile historic Trail that includes 16 seventeenth and eighteenth century buildings and locations where the American Revolution began. Stories of desperate housewives, survivors, commanders in chief, extreme makeovers and CSI make the Revolution as compelling as it was 250 years ago.
“We’re really pleased to be working with Toura, a global leader in smartphone app development,” says Freedom Trail Foundation president Mimi La Camera. “This is a significant milestone for Freedom Trail, to release an app that educates our visitors across a large variety of devices available in the market. We will continue to demonstrate our commitment to distributing educational content on new platforms by working with market leaders, such as Toura.”
The new Freedom Trail app is available in iTunes and the Android Market for $4.99. For more information or to purchase the app, visit http://a.toura.com/60. Proceeds from the sale of the app support the Freedom Trail Foundation’s Preservation Fund.
About the Freedom Trail
The Freedom Trail Foundation is the 45 year old nonprofit foundation dedicated to marketing, promoting and helping to preserve the Freedom Trail. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile path that leads to 16 of the country’s most significant historical landmarks. The sites are not adaptations or re-creations, they are real and each one played a pivotal role in America’s rebellious beginning. Marked by a red brick path or painted line, the Trail weaves its way through Boston’s proud past in the midst of this vital, modern city. Freedom Trail® is a federally registered trademark held by the Freedom Trail Foundation and cannot be used with written permission.
