The famous “Flight of the Angel” is shown in the video from Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the finale of the 101st Fisherman’s Feast in honor of Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca. After an all-day procession through the streets of the North End, the statue of the Madonna returns to the center of the feast at North, Fleet and Lewis Streets. The big money (literally) comes down from the windows of North Street and is wrapped around the Madonna statue.
The “Flight of the Angel” ceremony is recited in Italian by the three angels located in upper floor windows of North Street (4:40 in the video). This leads up to the famous flying angel flying down from the sky to the Madonna statue. This year’s flying angel is Ciara Rose D’Amico with side angels Jessica Marie Palazzolo and Victoria Bono. Finally, a sea of confetti covers the crowd as the Madonna statue returns home to the Fisherman’s Club on Lewis Street.
