News from North End Against Drugs (NEAD):
Thanks to Mayor Thomas Menino, North End Against Drugs will be receiving a R.O.C.K.S. grant for the 5th consecutive year. The Recreational Opportunities for City Kids grant award is for $4,500.00. NEAD will provide Free Arts and Crafts programs at the Mirabella Pool every Thursday starting July 14th to Sept 1st from 1 to 4pm for all boys and girls ages 8 to 16. We have also added 4 Saturday afternoons this year: July 16th,July 30th, August 20th and August 27th also from 1 to 4pm.
“NEAD is extremely grateful to Mayor Menino for allowing us to continue this fantastic program for the youth of the North End for another year,” stated NEAD president John Romano. We will also have a few of our fun sports nights for boys and girls ages 8 to 16 and will again be run by Alfredo Vilar and Mikey Fud at the Polcari Playground on Prince Street. The sports nights will be held on Thursday July 14th,Friday August 5th and Friday September 2nd. They will be run from 6 to 9pm – rain or shine.
