Boston’s North End: An Italian American Story had its neighborhood premiere Saturday night on Hanover Street at St. Stephen’s Church. The documentary film chronicles the North End from the immigration era to modern times.

This is the first feature length, high definition film to chronicle the vibrant Italian American community that has called the North End of Boston home for well over 100 years. “Boston’s North End: An Italian American Story” is based on historical records and interviews with Italian American North Enders and their descendants, ranging in age from 7 to 94, from around the Boston area. It also features original music written especially for the film, home videos, and many photographs. Highlights include early political struggles, former World Welterweight Boxing Champion Tony DeMarco, and Stephen Puleo, author of “The Boston Italians.”

  1. Great night for the North End. The movie is spectacular all North Enders should purchase a copy and join the North End Historical Society.
Thank you Matt for the coverage and the photos.

  2. It was a true privilege to attend Saturday night’s North End premiere (being able to purchase and walk out with a copy of the DVD afterwards was a great bonus!).

The film is wonderful. Many thanks to everyone that worked so hard for so many years to make this film come to fruition.

As a 19-year resident of The North End, it was important for me to see how the neighborhood has evolved so much over the years and what makes living here so special.

Great to see Tony DeMarco, as well.
