The North End Beautification Committee updated the North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) on their recent work to clean and beautify the neighborhood. The NEBC is a community-based volunteer organization with a mission to preserve, maintain and enhance the aesthetic integrity of this historic North End neighborhood, with the hopes to enrich its beautification through creative and innovative enhancements.
NEBC chairs are Patricia Thibotout, Allison Seavey and Dana Michalowski. Some the recent accomplishments of the NEBC include:
- Furnished and installed 96 double faced balsam wreaths on 48 light poles on Hanover and Salem Streets during the holiday season.
- Installed a 27 foot decorated Christmas Tree on the corner of Cross and Hanover Streets. The NEBC also held a tree event with santa and hot chocolate.
- Last year, the group partnered with Work Inc., for weekend street sweeping. Now that the city has increased manual hokey sweeping, this program may not be continued this year.
- Maintains four decorated planters on Cross Street year-round.
- Seasonal upcoming projects for the Spring/Summer: Fabric banners installed on poles “Welcome to the Historic North End”.
