BBJ: Lovejoy Wharf Developer Thinking More Offices, Less Residences

Ajax Management, designated developer for the dilapidated Lovejoy Wharf, wants to change its original plan for residences and build more offices at the site, according to a Boston Business Journal article by Thomas Grillo. The BBJ also reports that N. Andover-based Converse is at least one commercial tenant looking to take space at Lovejoy Wharf.

Lovejoy Wharf is on North Washington Street, next to TD Garden and the residential Strada 234 building. Residents at the latter sued against the adjacent Lovejoy Wharf project that would have blocked views. The parties settled last year, although there has been no noticeable progress in the development.

Under the existing plan approved by the Boston Redevelopment Authority, 240 residence units were to be developed at the site. The 131 Beverly Street building was expected to be replaced by a 14-story tower while the more historic Hoffman Building at 160 N. Washington Street was due for renovation. A large swatch of the Harborwalk was also expected to be reconstructed, including water shuttles, a public plaza, restaurant and retail spaces.
