Terrible for families. We are one of the fortunate few who live in a building with a trash room – for those who don’t this is awful! That means diapers will stay in house for five days! Monday-Friday. We should be attracting families to stay and live in the north end, not make it harder. Disappointed.
We also know that people already don’t put trash out on the right days as it is, with minimal enforcement if any. This could backfire and leave trash out on our streets for longer.
The City claimed that it would cost them 5 million dollars extra to collect trash between the hours.
of 6 – 9 a.m., well since they cut back 1 day, I don’t see any reason why the hours cannot be changed.
How much is being saved by 2 days instead of 3?
An extra day of recycling is great. One less day of trash pick up may not be so great but I’ll give it a chance. My biggest concern is how the city plans to get the word out about the change. Is there going to be a grace period with warnings or is the city going to hand out fines on July 2nd? Furthermore, what will happen to Wednesday’s trash that is mistakenly put out?
how on gods earth is there only going to be trash collecting for 2 days only? hello its a city highly polulated its not like its Everett, malden, Melrose ect were there are single family homes and the most 3 deckers? shame on the city of boston.. when I grew up there it was hard enough every other day with the trash..but 2times a week> Friday and Monday spare it.. I just hope that no rodents start coming into the buildings.. double trash your trash people.. and tripe trash the fish..throw some mint leaves in the trash and put some in your barrel.. I know raccons , skunks and squirrels don’t like that smell.. good luck.. shame on mayor walsh.
Worst idea ever. Clearly the they are out of touch with the North End. Most other areas of the city have locations behind the buildings for trash. In the North End most buildings have nothing. Mayor, please walk the streets of the North End on a trash night. Also we have to compete with all the trash from the tourists.
I can’t wait to be king of the rats!
I understand the frustration and share it regarding the decrease in trash pick-up but on a more positive note, I am happy to hear an additional recycling day will part of the regular.
I’m not noticing any mention of the hours residents are allowed to place trash & recycling out on the street.
With the new collection schedule, were the hours trash can be properly placed on the sidewalk shortened? Or are North End residents still entitled to put out their trash after 5:00P the night before collection (after 5:00P Sunday, and after 5:00P Thursday)?
