The North End has lost one of its most successful business owners and charitable residents. On Tuesday night, the family of Michael Mercogliano announced that owner of Mike’s Pastry has died.
It is with the deepest sadness and sorrow that we announce the death of the grandfather, father, husband – the Owner of Mikes Pastry – Mr.Michael Mercogliano. We will love and miss you everyday !! !!!!

Michael Mercogliano, 90 years of age, of Saugus, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Owner of Mike’s Pastry in Boston’s North End.
Beloved son of the late Philomena (Caronia) and Michael Mercogliano. Loving husband of Annette (Fiorentino) Mercogliano. Cherished father of Diane Volch and her late husband Ronald and the late Michael Mercogliano, Jr. and Phyllis DeNictolis. Devoted step-father of Angelo Papa and his wife Lorraine, Elaine Martins and her husband Richard and Joseph Papa and his wife Bridget. Adoring grandfather of Maria Johnson and her husband Tyrone, Vince DeNictolis, Jason Volch and his wife Beth, Monique Mercogliano Battista and her husband Gerald, Danielle Papa and James Caterino, Amanda Benoit and her husband Shaun, Joseph and Rebecca Papa, James McConville, Lorenzo and Giorgi Papa, and Michael and Nikko Martins. Cherished great grandfather of AJ Johnson, Ryan Volch, and Landon and Angelina Benoit. Caring brother of Ralph Mercogliano and his wife Janice and Rose Tricca and her late husband Anthony.
Funeral from the Boston Harborside Home, 580 Commercial St, Boston on Tuesday, December 18th at 8:45AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Leonard’s Church on the corner of Hanover and Prince Streets at 9:45AM. Family will be accepting visitors from 4PM-8PM on Monday. Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford, MA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Michael’s memory to the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet St Boston, MA 02113.

Besides the obvious great cannolis and desserts, Mike’s Pastry is one of the most generous businesses in the North End and that generosity started at the top.
